Have to agree that if a president isn't showing up or doing her work then I think she needs to either give it up or get with the program. There is no reason for rest of the group to suffer because of her lack of commitment. Say it is due to things in her personal life, yes you may feel sorry and yes you may support her but in the mean time what will happen to the program if she is still at the helm. Being president is not a job to be taken lightly it does require alot of time and if she cant do find someone who will , maybe within time if she gets her issues together she can do it again. as far as the treasurer thing i am not sure why she is asking for the treasure to give up the checkbook...thats just wrong!

Work4kids- After reading several of Scottsmoms posts in the past week, this is far more of an issue than missing a few meetings. And we all vent here. It's part of the reason I love it. She has tried to work this out as an adult with this person.
If you are talking about the issue of being a role model for our children than what about the fact that someone has made a commitment that they are unwilling to fulfill. It effects everyone else when we fail to fulfill those obligations and if your life is so full of conflict that you miss several (not just one or two meetings) then perhaps you should do the responsible thing and step down. The work has to be done and if you are unwilling to do it, then to hold on for - status or control- say, then you are a problem, not a solution. It's not about missing the meetings but not doing her job and upset that it was done without her. That is a very poor role model for our children.

I have to go along with MyKidsMom on this (but then we agree most of the time anyway...lol). I would just like to add my two cents in that being the pres demands an enormous amount of time and/or effort. I do not work outside of the home for pay, and that allows me to be a full time prez. Now, while I know that not everyone can be full time volunteers, the position of prez is not just a volunteer position. It requires an enormous amount of time (24/7? surely you jest... 25/8 is more like it), it requires a person who is creative (what can I do with all these peanut shells?), can think on the spot (Sally didn't show up? Move the tables together and share a salesperson), is able to delegate (I'm learning, I'm learning), able to get along (read: not a bully) and play well with others, and at the very least, attend the meetings. If you cannot attend the meetings, you simply cannot be prez. And if you are in the position and don't want to step down, you had better be able to deal with the other officers carrying out the Mission Statement of the group!

I see no middle ground here. One can either fulfil the requirements of office or not. It doesn't matter what the 'sides' are. In this case, while both sides are in a power struggle (and I think ScottsMom is correct in her opinions) the only loser is going to be the kids... Figure out what you are going to do, set your course, fix the problem, move on... the sooner the better.

In your previous statement saying that your husband will take care of her himself. I'm wondering is that how things should be ran when it comes to PTO? I dont think it's very mature myself. Isnt that our job as parents and or school associates to provide some kind of roll model???
I'm sure in your situation there are lines being crossed or misunderstandings. The PTO president i'm sure and this goes for any always takes on a role because he or she plans on being able to juggle a job and or family plus whatever responsibilites the PTO has. To me being in this situation myself have had a couple instances where I wasnt able to make a meeting Ie. child sickness or whatever. There are always two sides to a story and instead of being on here venting why dont you make it a point to sit down with this person and state your concerns in an adult manner. No need to come on a website with threats.

Work4kids...I don't think any threat was ment and we all (I've been here a long time) need a shoulder and right now Scott's Mom has an easy few to talk to.
Sure there are two sides and "Scott" would love to hear her President's.
As far as the hubby remark, my hubby gets so upset the way I am treated at times, yep, he would like to talk to these people. He is not only my tallest fan but my protector...my dad told him it's in the "fine print" ;) .

We all vent here and as long as the moderator is okay with it, we all are in this together.

Besides, the President is supposed to chair the meeting so according to Robert's rule (unless there is a provision in the bylaws that state's otherwise) As a chair, she does not vote anyway so what difference other than the intimidation factor, could she have made in the vote?
