Christmas babysitting as a fundraiser?

17 years 11 months ago #89439 by PTOCES
Would you host this at the school? Would you have to have a parent:child ratio? I would assume that there would be another policy for the childcare in liability insurance. Might reconsider talking to my insurance agent.

This sounds like an awesome plan, I might consider charging less for older children (having them help out) and charging a higher price for the younger children. What about places for the little ones to rest? ( don't know the hours of the fundraiser)

I am interested...

You would probably need someone certified in first aid present, and check with your school or district about liabilities,,and any special requirements for the diaper changing element. That might require a certification or something.

Another thing to consider is the age of the children you are willing to watch. Will it only be school agers or are you willing to watch younger siblings? Are you willing to change diapers for those younger siblings? That's a whole other ball game. :D

Great idea.
Can you get scouts involved who are looking for service hours? Extra hands to lead games, crafts couldn't hurt, as long as parents are there to supervise.
Are you going to charge $5 per child for the entire time? If all 150 kids showed up, you would gross $750. Need to up the charge to make more money. What about siblings who may be older or younger? Would you take them also. Think about how much you would like to make on this fundraiser and work backwards to determine how much to charge.
I think it's a great idea and would love the chance to Christmas shop one evening with my husband without the kids. When can I sign up...

Did anyone end up doing this? My new board is very enthusiastic about this idea, and I want to have a plan in place when I meet with the principal. I know she will be concerned about kids not being picked up in a timely manner.

Ok, this was my thoughts on it after reading your messages. Our school is only 150 kids so I pretty much know all of the parents but are going to make them fill out a form similar to the emergency health forms we fill out at the beginning of the year. It will have contact numbers on it and who has permission to pick up the child. Parent must show id to pick up the child and sign them out. I don't need any type of other insurance as this is like any of our other fundraisers. We were going to serve hotdogs for dinner and do it on Friday nights after school. The Hotdogs were donaaated and all we would have to buy is bread. We are still trying to decide on how much to charge for the 4 hours we will have it. One person suggested $5 per child. We are putting out almost no money for this. What do you thing. Also should we put an age limit on the children we will watch? Thanks for helping!
