  1. We are having a Sock Hop & Car Show Fundraiser. Cars pay to be in the show and we have 10 plaques for the top ten "People's Choice Awards". Cars pay $20 advance and $25 day of the show. If you have 100 cars, that is a great way to raise funds. We also have a local restaurant bringing their catering trailor and selling hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, salads etc. and will give us a portion of the sales. A local gaming store is bringing their mobile gaming car and having a Beatles Guitar Hero contest for the older students (we have k-8). Of course we are having raffles, silent auction games and prizes. Best dressed, best costume, bubble gum blowing contest and hoola hoop contest. Hope this helps!

We did a sock hop a few years ago. In addition to the juke box which a local buisness let us borrow, we also had root beer floats(great seller), we had snow cones which replaces cotton candy simply because of weather conditions. But the big differance was made in our decorating I think. We went to a local flea market and the owner donated a huge box of 45's we plastered them all over our caferteria. and hung them from the ceiling. It was great. We also had a hula-hoop contest and a limbo contest to entertain the children, incouraging parents to participate as well. The kids had a blast. I hope this is of some help, and not to late.

We plan our 50's night with a pot luck dinner and this is huge! We had so many families attend the last one we did, we had to find tables from the computer lab to set in the hall way!!!
This year I am working on friends that are Elvis and Marlyn Monroe (sp) to come and entertain! (My husband belongs to an Elivs Fan Club!) THAT shoud be fun!
Otherwise we also look to our partents to help with music, dance, photos etc! It's a real community gathering!

Our elementary does a sock hop a year. Just a bit of advice. Have it be mandatory that a parent be with the student at the hop. No just dropping them off at the door. If you choose not to you will soon see why you should. We offered pizza and pop and a few other goodies in the cafeteria. All grade levels enjoy it. (As a matter of fact when the kids go on to the middle school they miss the sock hop the most) Have too much fun!!

lindakm and christina tate, I LOVE your idea's. I wasn't thrilled with doing a dance in elementary school because I really don't see it as all inclusive (ie the littler kids, k-2/3) but you guys have great ideas and even the little kids would have fun. thanks so much for posting your ideas! maggie
