That doesn't sound so bad. Our parents suggested bringing in their favorite book to sit with their family or friends to read together. They could do that at home. Now, having people read to the children sounds like a good idea. Especially, if we could get some local "celebrities" to participate. That is a wonderful idea. I feel much better about the idea. The way it was presented last night was not appealing at all! This site has been so wonderful. I can't tell you how many great things I have gotten from it.

hey nicuvlntr, in defense of book night.... [img]smile.gif[/img] our school does "reading under the stars" every year during national reading month (march). The kids love it. We bring in volunteer readers (anyone from mom and dad to sports figures). We probably have 7 or 8 in different classrooms, we have 3-4 15 minute periods where you are in the room and listening to the book that is being read. The kids come in their pajamas, the people reading can decorate the room, dress up, etc. We have a bake sale and raffles. It's really a lot of fun. I presented this idea last night and it didn't go over well. The price made our parents squirm! I'm still going to investigate it more for rewards, etc. Our parents decided a "Book night" and "game night" would be easier. Don't get me wrong, I agree reading is important, but that idea is the biggest "sleeper" I've ever heard of. Like the kids are going to enjoy that! The idea was to have a night to have fun with family and FRIENDS. Game night wouldn't be so bad, but I still like the movie thing.

I can't believe your school has a "kids night out" every month. How in the world did that pass a vote at your PTO? Please tell me your secret!! I've come to the conclusion that our parent don't know how to have fun. Everything is such and ordeal! Book Night...GOOD GRIEF

Movie nights! We have just completed (with great success) our second year of "KID'S NIGHT OUT".
Number one YES! you do have to purchase a license. We used SWANK movie license. We are a 5 school district, but the cost goes by the enrolement (students in our district is approx. 2500 the cost of our license was $1500 total/ divide that by 5 schools is $300 each.
Don't forget that allows for any movie from a whole bunch of movie studio's to be viewed at the school for any occasion.(Market day-babysitting-rewards for students-etc.)
Number two Yes we charged $4.00 ahead of time $5.00 at the door plus concessions(that ranged from 5-50 cents)
Number three we never advertized to the public. Only to the students of our building. Providing a service and making a tidy profit.
Number four . We had our "kid's night out" once a month.
