I just hit up a hometown paper supply company, I am getting 1000 cups w/lids for $30. (he also just donated a case of toilet paper, plastic gloves, and paper plates). What's up with the home baked goods? you can't sell them?

Melly, it hasn't taken much effort so far, you might be able to pull it off.

The chilli sounds good, but that'll have to wait for the 2008 elections. President(PTO) is already like a full time job with unlimited overtime.

Academy--Welcome to the boards! Congratulations on such a great bake sale!

We have a very nice Dunkin Donuts in our town, and if someone shows up there when they close at midnight, they'll give you the donuts they were going to throw away. They can be used the next morning and are still fresh enough!

Our High School Music Boosters are VERY successful at our town's celebratory day every year. Each member is asked to donate a half tray of either sausage and peppers or meatballs in sauce. They get hero rolls donated and then charge $4.00 a sandwich. This year they sold out, and they netted close to $2,000!

We find chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies do well, as well as snicker doodles. Brownies always sell well, as well as cupcakes. We have our bakers prewrap everything, and it makes things so much easier. Another thing that goes are mini loaves of zucchini, pumpkin or banana bread.

This board is great! I love the idea of a bake sale on election day. This lets you fundraise without "hitting up" your parents. I think it also might be an opportunity to get nearby neighbors who don't have kids in the school to become interested in your school!

Wish I'd seen/thought about this earlier -- the presidential election is an especially good opportunity, but it might be too late to get organized for it now. :(

Why not get a local restaurant to donate Chili for the event. We are also holding an election day Bake and Chili sale. It should go over well in the northeastern cold climate. Especially this year since it's a presidental election year. There will be a big turnout.

We're still worried that our superintendent will shut us down because of home baked goods being in the school. But my argument to him is that the home baked goods are being sold mainly to adults and any children will be accompanied by an adult who is voting.

We're also posting motivational and humorous signs along the walls where people will be standing in line. Funny jokes and quotes from famous people and motivational sayings will keep people occupied while waiting too.

Remember to try and offer hot cups with LIDS for coffee and tea. People love that they can make a cup of coffee and take it with them. They are more likely to buy it and take it with them. We're also individually wrapping cookies to sell as a little package to take with them as well. Rather than something they have to eat right there on the spot. We were also thinking of offering loaf breads to sell as a whole. Like banana nut, pumpkin, zucchini breads etc. Still not sure on that.

Our school is closed for voting Nov. 2, so we are doing a bake sale at the school during the election. The local doughnut shop is selling us the doughnuts at half price and we are selling them at reg price. We also have several parents baking and we are selling coffee, cocoa, and bottled water. This is our first time doing this so we'll see how it goes, but one of my clients did it at their school and she said they pulled in money like you wouldn't believe. She didn't know the exact amount. All those people standing in line in the cold, what else can they do but buy something. Just check with the Town Hall and see what the rules are on it.

Where did you hold your bake sale? Did you find that some items sold better than others?
