Frustrated with Campbell's

We took our kids to McDonald's in Springfield, IL yesterday and on the Happy Meals bags there were coupons for Campbell's labels. You attach the coupon to 20 Campbell's labels (and participating brands) and it will be good for 100 bonus labels. I know this is not a very worthwhile program but for those that still have some left it would get you a little more if your McDonald's has these. Our librarian has always used the labels for a little income for the library. PTO saves them for her but she does all the work. She was able to get a VCR this past year. PTO sticks to Box Tops and Tyson Points. (We haven't gotten enough Tyson Points to cash in yet but we have high hopes!)

That was in PTO Today, in one of the first issues I read, and one of the items that made me say "WOW! What a great magazine!"

Very little has changed. Tens of thousands of schools still participate, mostly because tens of thousands of schools have always participated. You’re eating an awful lot of soup (and you’re an exception) if your school earns more than $100 of prize value in a single year.

Offer 1 to 2 cents per label
Work Hi
Promotion Needed Low
Reward Low

We axed this fundraiser last year. Too little return for the effort. See "Newfangled Fundraising" for more ranting ;)

I read somewhere that Campbells is not a good resource for "free money". I can't remember what site, (but worth doing a search) where they rate the fundraisers. I remember that General Mills cereal boxtops were a better way to go. We are also going to start collecting used printer cartridges. You may be able to get $3 for each one!!

I suppose if they're already counted and tied and weighed and everything, somebody might as well use the labels for the $30, but I hope your message is a cautionary tale for other groups to TRASH THOSE LABELS.

Sounds like you're still ready to do great work for your school, but imagine if you had assigned that project to an enthusiastic new volunteer. Think of how disappointed that volunteer would be when s/he discovered how pointless her hours of effort were.

When "why can't I get more help?" is the most common leadership question by far, it's more important than ever to make sure that we value the volunteers that we do have.

The labels program is a waste of volunteer time, and that time is like gold.
