So--did you get the money yet? What worked better, the rubber hose or disabling her with the stun gun? :D

Our by-laws state that all funds collected must be deposited into our bank account by the next business day. All funds are given immediately to the President or Treasurer and they verify the amount and deposit it. Also, we have at least two people counting the money together. A few simple controls can eliminate situations like this or the even worse scenario of never seeing the money again. Our volunteers also like the controls because it eliminates even hints of impropriety.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

Hmm-you could take her out back and beat her with a rubber hose, or maybe put the stun gun to use? :D

I'm assuming this is only with events she's chairing, or somehow in charge of (that is, other people who run an event haven't been instructed to give money to her). I could think of a couple of reasons WHY she's doing it, expecially if she DOES eventually hand the money in, but HOW to handle it is another story.

I'm sort of with melloweer--making a new policy from this point forward that the only people to handle money are the committee/fundraising chair, president and treasurer on one hand makes sense. But then that could get weird if she HAS to chair an event, or if she's part of an event where money has to be collected (like a catalog sale), or you have other people collecting money (like with a cash register/box). It's going to happen--the fundraising/committee chair can't always be the only ones taking money, be it collections from catalog sales or running the drawer at the book fair.

Definitely make a rule that ALL proceeds from any "event" MUST be given in to the President, Fundraising Chair or Treasurer AT THE END OF THE EVENT. Everyone meets at a designated time/place to give up the money. That way, she doesn't get a chance to get it home. If she DOES "sneak" it home, go to her house the next day, unannounced. Nothing accusatory, nothing suggested, you were in the neighborhood and figured you'd take it off her hands. As uncomfortable as confrontations can be, in the end you have to think about yourself, and the repurcussions this kind of thing could have on you, your family and the membership as a whole.

What a bummer--why can't everyone be normal, like us ;) ?

Don't let anyone other then the fundraiser chair (or that specific committe working on the fundraiser) and the treasurer touch it. I am the fundraiser chair and have it set up so the treasurer is the only one to touch the money so there are no problems. I'd suggest you talk to the President and have her/him go about figuring out what to do. I personally would drive to the VP's house as much as possible until you got vp face to face and collect the money then. I think if someone is that delayed I'd be a bit suspecious about them spending that money and trying to pay it back before they got caught.

I was wondering if anyone has ever had our problem? We have a VP who after a fundraiser doesn't hand the money in to the treasurer until after about 10-15 phone calls (usually, about 1 1/2 - 2 months later). She always has one excuse or another. This last time we had a two part fundraiser, I made three deposits while the event went on. She, the VP in charge, still hasn't handed in the money she collected(that was 1 month ago). What is one to do?
