One more thing. I would purchase a ham at holiday time. I would be getting one anyway for entertaining so why not add a few bucks into my child's school too.

I love when things get stirred up! It's the entertainment of my life. I know, I should go read a good book. As far as the original post about good fundraisers we do a holiday greens (yeah, I know it's too late) it's profitable and as long as you don't feed the greens to the children won't add to the obesity problem. Car magnets with your schools initials are in and they are inexpensive in bulk sell cheap and removable too! The fundraisers we have with food are Joe Corby and any candy included in the Cherrydale Farms. The food police are taking over our school while they complain about needing more AP classes and less PE (it takes up valuable class learning time). Go figure.

One more thing. I know you cant make everyone happy, but you can do things to try and make our country a little bit more healthy.

I never said I would be offended. I just said I didn't think it was a good idea, nor a money maker. Maybe my tones were harsh, but I don't think honey-baked hams are healthy. And I do think the new regulations coming into effect about having only healthy fundraisers allowed will be the best thing to happen to us. I am just sick and tired of the sales of food period. It is such a huge epidemic, and we don't need our children promoting it with Candy, and cookies, and honeybaked ham.

Dead Pig...good grief you have meat issues Catherine. Yes, you can't please 100% of the people and besides nowhere close to 100% of folks participate in fundraisers anyway. The majority of people are not vegetarians and as such selling meat will cater to the majority. If you are not interested in a ham you should not be offended, just do not buy one.

Bwoolard...We do Market Day and around the holidays they sell a number of various roasts that people buy. My only suggestion to you would be to try selling them at a time of year when most folks would be most likely to want/need a ham. I would suggest doing one right before Easter.

Catherine, are you kidding us?

I'm a vegetarian and would absolutely not be offended by a ham fundraiser. I wouldn't buy one, but I'd give $20 in lieu of a purchase. And ham doesn't make someone obese. Lots of ham does. As does lots of anything. Do you know that Weight Watcher's on-line has a forum for vegetarians/vegans? It's because too much of any food makes you fat.

I guess schools should stop selling wrapping paper so the Jehovas Witnesses aren't offended.

And no more raffles so the Baptists aren't upset.

And I guess no more field trips to the zoo so PETA members won't protest.

It's ok to come on these boards and disagree or offer differing opinions. But there is probably a nicer way to do it. Since, of course, you wouldn't want to offend anyone.
