Hey Bonnie, I cannot help you out with the market research, our school has never had a ham fundraiser. I think people would be hesitant to purchase a "big ticket item" (I'm guessing this could be pricey) without first knowing the quality. If you market a national brand you may have better luck as people can associate quality with a certain brand, like Honey Baked Ham.

I appreciate this idea because it is diferent and could be compared to a holiday greens sale or an Easter candy sale. A seasonal fundraiser.

All I can say is healthy food does not always sell and sometimes you loose money. At our Fall Carnival we had salads for sale to make the "healthy ones" happy and we ended up throwing more than half of our order in the trash. We even went around giving them away and people did not touch them. We sold 2 salads at regular price, then lowered the price and sold a few(3)more. We sold apples by the bag and ended up giving them away too.

People say they want healthy but then when offered to them they do not purchase the items. This is a fundraiser you must pick items that sell and make money.

Catherine, why do you not have a choice not to participate? You are never obligated to purchase from your PTO, if you do not like the product you do not purchase it. Tell your kids you are not purchasing the product. End of story. This is called parenting and we all have to do it.

Now, where is my ham sandiwch with mustard with a side of baked beans? I think I'll have a large lemonade to go with that. Kids, want any?

bwoolard- if yu can get a good profit on that i'd like to have the company's name.

second, catherine i totally understand the above post is your opion, however, please don't try to convince me of YOUR beliefs. i grew up eating meat and potatoes, my children eat meat and potatoes and all of us are ideal weight. thank you Crewchief for saying that alot of anything makes people gain weight. Remember, too little of exercise also makes you gain weight. my family is active and we do eat ham, bacon, sausage, and pork chops. it's the portions. besides, when is it o.k. to tell anyone what to buy or eat?

Yes, Catherine, you did get our attention. I think my eyes are still wide open and my poor jaw.

dlf, I think we are suppose to be talking about ham fundraisers but it seems it got way off track. Now all this talk makes me want a ham sandwich. Oh, well!

Unfortunately, my boys do not like veggies but love fruit and ham.
