Les --- I dont listen to stern that's my point-- but I dont stop others from listening to him.. I just say NO- its easy -- N -- O -- rage issues???? I'm giving you examples of harassment not threatening you - go look harrassment up in the dictionary -- they were examples to show you that putting a brochure up at work or asking would not in any court of law be considered harrassment --- on the other hand my examples would be... as for rage... learn to read please before you cyberlibel people...

And yes this GUY not girl does have issues :) -- If you cant say no to your boss about buying trinkets and such maybe you should find another boss --

Your not on the wrong board--- losts disagree here -- thats what a forum is for -- a back and forth on issues -- I disagree with PTA's lobbying practices and how they spend their money and lots still join and its still a good org just misguided as was WSJ guys post.... as for the judgement on the H Stern and my personality- maybe you posting the wrong way not on the wrong board --

Attitudes can be adjusted without violence but NOone should come on an call those 'NOble and ridiculous' for wanting to help children when a story only give one side of a story from a minority perspective

Harassment would be me sending you repeated emails saying 'you're a dope since you wont buy from my kid, or repeatedly dropping a brochure on your desk after you said no, or cornering you in the elevator and demanding you buy form my kid to support a JUST and NOBLE cause, please nonone was even harsh on Wall Street Journal guy' - my first thought of a response to him has the same initials as F unny Y ucks - A Business community and community that doesnt support its educational system is WORTHLESS

Most companies dont recommend door-to- door because of the sickos and wackos out in our world.

Les you may disagree and good luck on your fundraiser -- but Harsh isnt even close to what that guy needs to learn- me if he had said it to my face probably wouldnt ... well I am not a pacifist... - I think in (WSJ Guy) this case it would be good to 'not shoot the messenger' but he might get his 'attitude adjusted'

Gee, you girls have some serious rage issues. Hope that isnt what fundraising does to you. Hope you are proud of these posts and would be proud to show them to your CHILDREN (they are the point, right??????) and your parents. Should have known you listen to Howard Stern. Figures.
I am obviously on the wrong board.

think of how you handle telemarketing calls, or your neighbor scout knocking on yuor door with mom just beside her, or amway knocking

just say NO if you dont want to buy but dont shoot the messenger or judge their actions.

I see your point. But in response, it is still a lot easier to shut the door on the scout and hang up or not answer the phone if the scout or telephone caller isnt your BOSS. Have none of you felt undue pressure to buy something from a boss or a coworker?? It is easy to say "they could just say no".
That is what defense attorneys say in other types of harassment cases too. You shouldnt feel any undue pressure to do anything other than your job at work. I am not saying that everyone applies that pressure to employees or coworkers but to say it doesnt happen is just untrue! Many businesses have stopped allowing it and I, for one, am glad.
My husband does call a couple of co-workers that happen to also be FRIENDS, when the fall fundraiser comes around. But they are Friends.

Les you are correct but its remember its not jsut your decision - It is a board vote- if thats what your members want-- as a small business owner you are leaving out a large target of your market - which I could never do -- Its akin to making a PG movie but releasing/distributing it nly at the local porn shops-- your target market will never see it

An the WSJ isnt about facts, educating or money--- they sensationalize to sell dogliners that people read first

Do we do this because we think we are being noble? NO I do it because I want my kids to have that extra stuff that they would not have without it, if people don't want to buy fine, but don't come down on people trying to help...just say no! We don't deserve to be called ridiculous and if I saw this man to my face I would probably have to be held back...and I am not a violent person I am too busy trying to be noble!
We all know the pain fundraisers are, we all know the headache of trying to decide, we all know about being hit up over and over so we don't have to be told that and since you are vp of fundraising at your school I really wish you luck that you can pick that perfect moneymaker that everyone loves! Once you do please share so we can all stop doing what we do to make that $20,000.oo without bothering anyone.

Now I was with you until the catty remark about me finding "that perfect fundraiser yada yada". That was about as uncalled for as the gentleman's tone. I do think that there is an implied pressure in the workplace to BUY that isnt in the community and I personally think it shouldnt be exploited. Perhaps if employers and employees felt less exploited by the school groups, they would be more generous.
I dont intend to find a "perfect fundraiser that everybody loves".
I just happen to believe that we can make that "$20000" without proving the aforementioned gentleman right. We can raise what we need outside of the workplace so that we are only getting contributions from those that actually believe in the cause.
