Fundraiser involvement

Thank You Shawn...I get so tired of people ripping parent groups. If I could go out and plant a money tree for my group, I would do it in a minute. This is one of those everyone has an idea to fix it but no one wants to do it...I guess I am too busy being 'Noble' and ridiculous!

I just am curious if unregistered has ever had a child go through the over funded beauracracy of a education system???

If you are really interested in acquiring funds for your school, please refer to todays Wall Street Journal (03/29/2007), the article is in section D - Personal Journal, 'Parents Rebel Against School Fund-Raisers'. There is some very interesting information there that I believe should be read by everyone in this forum.

As a business owner you have that right - as a parent and small business owner I couldnt disagree with u more- our fundraising efforts have no bearing or dont pay for an over funded buearacracy (our Beauracracy is one good- but bad because like Parental Involvement the US is severly lacking- ie less than 40% vote but 90% bitch and whine -- our dilemna is the same us here a the minority but as I've said in other posts 'NOT silent in the least'- we pay for childrens lunches, student supplies, teacher supplies, parent involvment and education, textbooks, curriculum, fieldtrips and technology, music and sicence classes (slowly being rooted out of schools) family activities that an overfunded beauracracy (and many communites and businesses )ignores.

you can send my subscription of the Wall Street Journal to my home and I will distribute copies to all whom wish to read this drivel (the article has a good premise-- parents are tired of buying trinkets and crap to fund programs states and federal should fund.... but 'we do the Noble' because we must... Many dont have the resources to write or learn to write, research grants , etc -- Maybe you'd like to setup a free consulting/grantwriting/ think tank???? -- It a kin to Election time for those of us whom vote -- a lesser of 2 evils deal

If helping my childschool get computers and a better education and buying crap trinkets is noble ... Then I'm the 'in' with the noblest people on the face of this planet AND know what I'm talking about (ask me I'll tell ya) I usually dont take half of what is derived from some left-wing liberal financial dogcage liner rag as anything near the truth for the average man or woman or as correct in any shape or form (Especially becasue of its label or name) .... an article from a newspaper/ magazine does not make it correct or even close (show me 500 articles, research studies and the like and maybe I'll listen or consider it- I can show you 500 or more studies that show fundraisng, parental involvement and Noble fundraisng increase social, economic and education in families regardless of economic or ethnic standing / background and unfortunately sometime go together like G Payton and "The GLove")

I despice fundraising and am working towards culling and sharing my grant knowledge with others

Step out into our world before you libel what you dont know ... an open invitation to change the ways we run is here... Post your knowledge (more than one 'media rag' ) to ENLIGHTEN us ALL... I throw down the gauntlet ARE you up for it???

MobiusMom, I don't think it's uncommon for businesses to have that 'no solicitation' rule among employees. I know when I worked, folks would bring in candy bars (and made a killing! - 50 women, one office, chocolate for sale = $$$) but no catalog sales. I imagine it could get out of hand pretty quickly considering all of the entities that rely on fundraisers.

Pals, I have nothing to add. You said it all!

unregistered I can assure that there is not ONE of us people on this forum that love fundraising and find it a fun thing or "noble" to do. We do it because we have to in order to do things for our children, yeah I know you are thinking boo hoo. Truth is parent groups are big business these days, some pay salaries, alot pay for books, computers, art classes, etc.with that money. I also can tell you that schools do walkathons, mathathons, penny drives, sponsorship drives, yada yada and there are alot of schools who do those things, so maybe just maybe it isnt just all school ptos selling at your company, hmm could it be dance, scouts, sport teams? Maybe...huh. We may be ridiculous in your mind but in our mind we are helping make a difference and if you choose not to support us then don't buy from us, if you can do better raising money then come join our groups, if you are just trying to give us a hard time, find someone else! Me I will continue with what we HAVE to do because schools have more mandates and less money these days...but then you probably wouldnt agree with that either! Mr I will think of my ridiculous fundraising efforts next month when close to 600 grandparents have a free lunch with their grandchild because of our efforts...oh but that is a warm, fuzzy, feeling and since pto's are out for every drop of blood then we can't do those things!!!!!

At the end of the fundraiser we sent out a survey and was surprised by home many parents aren't able to sell our/any fundraiser at work. Is anyone else hearing the same thing?
