Before you call a moving company , you really need to do a walking tour with SOMEONE in Administration and pleed your case. Two years ago I had 200 peices of uniform clothing, catering supplies, records, etc in my basement-garage-office areas!
The honest question was asked "How can you help me, help the school?" I didn't, haven't, and won't give up or accept the answer there is no room. We too are a K-12 school of 1400 students....as a mom of 5, I find the room!!
Wow! You had a whole room!!! We have never been blessed to have a room. Various nooks and cranny's within the school building is what we were given, no organization at all. We then got a new principal who made us move every thing out of the building and we have been forced to rent storage space in town. At least all our stuff is together now! :confused:
In our elementary school, we have very little space - a regular metal supply cabinet and a file cabinet in the teacher's resource room. Other than that, we've used various corners of a couple closets for the few items that need permanent storage (snow cone machine, decorations for Spring Fling). When I was president, a lot of it ended up in my garage, too.
I'd worry about a storage barn. Schools just seem to be a magnet for vandalism. If you have to go that way, get as secure of one as possible.
Could you see if there's a work area where you could add some locking supply cabinets. Most schools can find some space somewhere to stick one or two. (And note - you can get these pretty cheap at second hand office supply stores. The metal ones about 6' tall.)
You may also want to try your local town chapters of the Optimist Club or a Rotary Club. They might have access to a storage area you could "rent" some space in. I believe they are pretty much nationwide. We are very lucky that both of those clubs in our town are always willing to help any of the school organizations in a pinch or with a project.
You might also want to try a local American Legion hall, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Recreation Center, etc. I don't think it would hurt to approach any of these facilities in your area. They know how it is! Trying to help out the community (or in PTO's case, school) and a tight budget to do it with!

A storage barn. Most are already built and the lumber company will deliver it. That would be a cheaper option in the long run rather than paying a monthly storage fee for yrs. Just ask the school if this can be done.
