Unhealthy Environment - help

A school around here was just closed for over a year while mold was taken care of. It was very serious. Many children had asthma-like symptoms. As a parent of an asthmatic, I would call the health department immediately and ask for some direction.

A person can call OSHA or the local health department anonymously, by the way, if you are concerned about hard feelings. You are right - look out for your kids no matter what. Not sure where in the country you are - but mold is a huge issue across the country with various types of buildings and can cause tremendous health problems.

That's an OSHA matter or a health department matter. It could be a serious health hazard and poor working condition problem for the whole school.

There was a problem at one of our schools last year, a child got sick. The parent called in the state for testing and then a private company did some testing. In the end there was a mandatory clean up of the school. I believe the parent went to the school, then the admin office and finally to the state.

Hi all- haven't posted for a while - have been running like crazy getting our new PTO up. I have a serious question that I need some experienced help with.

The art teacher and I have been reviewing his condition in the art room of our very old school. He is actually in the old training room of the gym. There has been problems with leakage and now there is mildew and mold all around the walls and on furniture. Our principal is aware and she is doing her best to come up with a solution. The art teacher and I think that maybe getting a hut would be a better alternative then just bleaching the walls. The environment is definately not good for the children and I feel sorry for our art teacher having to be in it all day.

Can someone please tell me how to handle this. I know it isn't the job of the PTO, but it is the job of a parent to be sure her children are in a safe environment.

Look forward to hearing from you all and thanks in advanced!!
