Unhealthy Environment - help

Our school board has a policy on this. Whenever they get ready to spray they send home a note explaining the process and a bunch of legal jargon that is over my head. If we want to be notified when they do this we simply send back the bottom of the form with our info on it. I am not sure that this is not a state requirement. So when you go to your principal you may want to ask her if there are district or state policies, if so you may ask when they are going to be done. Be careful in your wording when you do talk to her because you don't want her to feel you are trying to tell her how to do her job. I really think you should talk to her.

Boy, you all know how to make a person feel better about a tough situation. Thanks again! Just one more question (for now). I had a parent approach me today as there was an article in our community paper yesterday. She wanted to know why parents were not sent home a letter letting them know of the situation. They felt that the principal should have done so. The principal and I have not really spoken since this all let loose and I was wondering if I should go to her and recommend a letter home or just field the question to her? Again - thanks to those of you who were so helpful and supportive. It does a girl good!

You did the right thing. So what if it comes back to you. You have a leadership role in the school and that leadership involves representing the other parents and to keep a healthy environment for all the children. That's more important than any amount of money you raise, etc. I'm sure every parent in the school will back you up on this one.

Thanks to you all for your advice. It would take me forever to tell you all what has happened. The children are not allowed back into the art building until the problem is solved. The principal moved very quickly, but it seems to have come back on me as PTO pres. I let her know that I came as a concerned parent - nothing else. We had a public forum for our side of the county the other evening and the superindentent did address the problem. My major concern now is that the problem is being dealt with from the source, not just being masked with fresh paint.

I thought this may be of interest www.educationworld.com/#schoolissues there were some things on there about "sick schools". Hopefully there is something there that can help you figure out your situation better.
