jrwmom, just on a side note, we became a 501c3 last year and it wasn't that long or that expensive. at least that was our experience.

I am new to PTO and we have never sought out grants before. I think a grant committee is a great idea. I've been researching this a little bit and would be curious as to what grants are available and were to find them?

The most important thing is to make sure that you are a 501(c)3 organization. Most grants are only available to groups that have that status. If you are not, there is a fairly steep filing fee and the process can be lengthy.

As a new president we are starting a Grant Committee. What auditing/accounting fees should we be aware of or plan for if we are awarded grant money? What amount of money is not worth the effort, if we have to pay $300 and up on external audit of the grant?

What are the IRS requirements or are there any?
