Unappreciated!

Ditto - send her a nice letter or even give her a call. Explain how that event's budget was decided this year with a little aside that ideas and opinions are always welcome at the meetings and are needed to help make these decisions. Maybe that will send her a subtle hint to come to the meetings and help out.

Besides all of that though - the kids do appreciate it (even if the adults aren't smart enough too)!! They may not know who, what, how, etc., but when you're at this event, just take a look around at those kids laughing and the smiles I'm sure you'll see on their faces and take pride in that! Keep up the great work!

I say write a nice, lovely letter to this mom in response. Thank her for her interest in PTO funded activities and offer several ways for her to be more involved with the group. Let her know that it's concerned parents like her who can really make a difference for the kids. :D

I agree -- write back a polite response and agree with the complainer -- sure you would have liked to spend a lot more on the celebration, as well as other things around school, but given the PTO's financial and volunteer resources, that was the best the group could do this year.

Complaints bother me a lot given that we really knock ourselves out over serving the school, but I have learned that even a letter of complaint is a now open channel of communication. Show the person how good you really are -- she may decide to join and follow you -- at a minimum, she will now respect you (assuming she's rational lol).

PS -- I have aton of complaints about our group currently, but that just leaves me talking to myself all the time. ;)

If you don't expect too much from me, you might not be let down. <img src=images/smilies/smile.gif>

The work you're doing for your school is priceless. The positive impact you're having will forever be felt by the students who benefit from your involvement.

that sure is one lousy attitude from that parent...try to ignore it, and just focus on the kids, after all, its THEIR appreciation that matters most.

I have no members attend meetings besides our current board. Today, I got a letter from a parent complaining about the amount of money we have budgeted for our 5th grade celebration. She feels they are entitled to more! I am so angry! I feel that if she had been more involved and come to meetings, she could have had a say in how much money we budgeted for it. She has no room to complain when she has shown no interest in helping out in any way prior to this. I know I shouldn't be so irritated, but I just feel like I do all this work and just don't get any appreciation or help for that matter!
