IMO their style and content of closing comments served to negate what was a positive-for-childrens-welfare body of the script and your very professional presentation of the matter.
I'm sorry Peg - I've spent the last 30 minutes contemplating my reply. I know it comes across as negative and I should've softened the blow - so to speak - but I guess I think you deserved an undiluted reply. And honestly, the more I think about the segment the more mad I get. It seems to me that CBS intentionally presented a very biased point of view in favor of corporal punishement and I'm so disappointed in them. Is that really the message they want to send out? That it's OK to hit kids? Good, great even, for problem kids?

But you looked great Peg - calm, professional, committed to the cause. If this movement is to have a voice, you're the perfect person for it. Good for you for taking on a job that many would shy away from! I hope the segment at least raises awareness and makes more parents think about what is really going on in schools.

Peg - I am sorry to say that this particular segment may be exactly counter to your efforts to eliminate corporal punishment and go a long way towards garnering public support for Mr. Price.
I'm glad that they gave you a voice and that photos were shown. However, the slant CBS put on the story, along with the reporters' closing comments, seem to give the impression that corporal punishment is not only a good thing but maybe should be reinstated in all schools and more actively used.
Also, I have the tv turned to CBS from 6:15 to 9:00 CST and didn't see this segment. I wasn't in the room the whole time so perhaps I just missed it. I'm wondering if local affiliates are given prior notice of segments and can choose whether or not to air them. I did notice that there was a lot of back and forth between The Early Show and the local news desk. I don't normally watch tv and rarely watch The Early Show so maybe that's the normal format. ?????

Above is the link to the CBS Early Show. Overall, I am pleased with the segment. I did not like the comment made about candy, it was a poor comparison, and I feared it would be used. I am very pleased that they showed pictures of bruises.
I would love a little public reaction if any of you feel so inclined to contact the CBS Early Show in support of this issue.
