i beg to differ. good teachers are a result NOT of good admin,,but of good PARENTING and a good education themselves.
admin at our school has NOTHING to do with the quality of teachers, in fact, there seems to be a negative correlation to the casual observer.

I think good teachers and good test scores are a result of a good administration. If your child is happy that is another good sign. Sounds like your school is not all that bad. Maybe there are people there you simply do not like, that's too bad.

We left a failing school, just in time for my two boys to get back on track, using the voucher program and our current school is so much better in the teacher department and test scores. I even got involved with the HSA. If I were you I would be happy your school's scores are good, that means a lot. The kids are at least learning something.

just peachey - no, our school does NOT receive title 1 funds....so that means i have no options, right? there is a charter school (public) but to get in you literally join the lottery, so very few go there. i know our school loses $$ when kids go to charter. otherwise, its private or parochial. anyway, our teachers are OK to good, scores are good (among certain of the population.,.....we have 40%minority, many ESL) its the ADMIN that leaves much to be desired. sometimes i wonder how the school can look so good (ref test scores) with pathetic leadership....i guess its the teachers that count, and not the talking heads in admin.

rightson, is your school a Title 1 school? If it is there are laws for parents to take their children out of a school that hasn't met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) I believe for two years you can send your child to one that has. You must provide transportation though. And this applies if the other school has room. Hope this helps. I feel what needs to happen is somebody needs to teach parents the No Child Left Behind Law. This way when you go to argue your case at a school you know what you're talking about. SOME administration bank on parents not knowing what they need to know. I'm grateful for the admin. that isn't threatened by parents knowledge and do what they can to see that ALL CHILDREN get what they are suppose to get education-wise.

grace - i cant help you. we dont have voucher system here (which is one reason the school admin can do whatever they please, you are hostage to taxes and school) so i dont know anything about those options you mention.
