I had the sme problem with a pricipal I had to work with. I suggest you go to the school superintedent. If you don't get anywhere with him go to the Board of Ed., and last but not least get all the parents together and decided what they want to do.
As parents you are allowed in the school at all times. Check the state laws on how the principal is to conduct himself.
This guy is on a POWER trip, the parents are going to have to curtail him.
Your children are not going to a military school!!!
GOOD LUCK!!

We also have a very difficult principal at our middle school. She is demanding the books and charter of our PTO and also wants us to close our PTO down saying that it is dysfunctional and that we don't do anything. But we have helped with parent teacher conferences, gotten volunteers for the book fairs, treated the teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week, etc., in the past year. I guess what I would like to know is can a school's principal being shown as the 'ex-officio' (sponsor for where the PTO exists) demand that the PTO be folded down. And yes, we also have a problem with getting parents to attend meetings as well. This is pretty widespread as many of our parents have kids who are involved in after school activities and cannot spare too much extra time which is understandable.

Anyone else offering advice or comments to this would be appreciated.

Don't apologize Vent to your heart's content! on the appropriate forum of course Why are you switching to a PTO? What do your By Laws say? Have you sought professional advice? i.e. accountant or attorney? Have you had a Board meeting or taken a vote of members? If you have done your homework, followed your By Laws and the PTA is in agreement Then state your reasons clearly and logically in writing to the Principal from the entire Board and m,aybe even have the Board meet with the Principal Our PTO once had an isimilar issue and we sought legal legal advice that said go above his head That can be political suicide and you have your children to consider which is why we decided not to fall on our swords over something like this Take a poll of the other schools in your District and fnd out what the District policy really is Go on the district website shceck with the Superintendent's office Do your PTO President's meet regurly to exchange ideas? We find that helpful Good Luck

HELP!! Our parents group is a PTA wanting to change to a PTO. We have been discussing the reasons for a while now. And come to find out our principal refuses to let us do it. He says that if we go ahead he will not let us do anything for the school. I dont understand why he would want to stop us when all we want to do is make his school better. He says that our school district doesnt reconize the PTO only the PTA, but we have found other schools that have a PTO. We struggle to get people involved and be a part of the school, but it is so difficult when we are constantly battling a principal who doesnt want anyone there. HE DOESNT EVEN WANT PARENTS THERE IN HIS SCHOOL!! How does someone like this become principal. Sorry for all that, I am just very frustrated about the whole thing. And I have to worry that if I hack him off to much then my daughter will suffer for it. Does anyone have any tips to offer, PLEASE.
