Mom First,
We all agree that you are perfectly within your rights to ask to see the treasurers report from your own PTO. We all also agree that if you have nothing to hide, then there is nothing to hide.

I tend to enjoy a good fight, especially when I know that I am right. You must do what you feel is best for yourself. Don't let a bunch of scared teachers get you down. Do more reseach on Lucella's post above to know your rights as a school aide.

If you get down, just revive this post and all of us in cyberspace will give you good reasons to soldier on.

Good luck.

The book was recommended to me by another poster. I got it and read it right away. It's a great book and offers some wonderful insight from all perspectives of a 'bullying' situation.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same."

Sure, it's always good advice to be careful.

It's sad to me, though, to think that a group of parents would let a situation spin this far out of control. In the long run everyone suffers. Mostly, and sadly, it's the students who will suffer most.

It's hard for me to see past what looks like the equivalent of a three year old stomping it's foot and saying, "you can't make me."

A simple request of "I'd like to see the financial records." should, in my opinion (I'm learning) be followed by an equally simple, "Sure. Here you go. Let me know if you have any questions." Anything other than that very basic, very normal exchange leaves folks no choice but to guess if their elected leaders are, at the least, immature or, at worst, behaving in an unethical or illegal way.

Thank you to Crew Chief, as the information posted was actual facts given in order to present my situation and factual to my the best of my knowledge. I have not attempted to slander anyone. I'm sure that SSLMOM was just watching out for what could be trouble. Just the FACTS MAM !!

I did do some checking into our state law under non-profit taxes, and sure enough, not only do they agree with the 501(c)3 IRS laws that I have read, our state law also adds that no matter if the by-laws include or do not include.....the non-profit org. must make public the finances of the group, and to withhold these records beyond 5 days constitues a daily fine. Further more their are specific laws for those who may benefit from a non-profit group, etc.

I have a few more documents to research before presenting this to the school board. Thanks again for so much support!!
