just because someone is out for themselves by following their own beliefs and not all warm and fuzzy and not ms. 'yes girl' does not make her a bully. what's up with all the bully talk on these boards? who as an adult and member of a PTA has been a victim of bulling? i would love to know. i think this is simply expressing opinions and being true to ones self. non tolerant does not make you a bully, it makes you stubborn

We have her for 2 years..Majority of the women would probably want to keep her. We will just keep going on doing what we can do for our school, teachers and students and worry about her next May..Thanks for all your input If I need the reference links or name of books I'll let you know thanks for everything

okaymom -- IF its a small bunch of actives, you surely AREstuck with status quo, doestn matter what the bylaws or parent body says (because it sounds likke most of them say nothing, if there is poor mtg turnout). IF however, many folks were displeased, maybe your bylaws have a rule (ours does) as to how other officers can vote OUT (remove) an officer. thats the democratic way. if the issues are personality, i can give you TONS of refernece links and books to help you navigate PTO PschycologyTakesOver matters. if she knows she is not really wanted but insists on her way and her rights,,,,then you might have a bully in yuor midst.in any event, common sense says that people should do whats best for everyone, not themselves , and if she senses its time to step down, or not run, thats what she should do . but she might get pleasure out of doing the exact opposite of what she knows/thinks others want (a classic bully tactic).

why not let the parent body decide? put it up to a vote at your next mtg, the matter. after all, its the parents who vote in the officers any way, and if the majority would have her agian, you cant fight the tide! and, you set a good example by putting it out to teh parents, let them feel they have a say in matters. since its not specified in your bylawas anywy, this scenario, seems OK to put out a survey or vote to teh parents, let THEM tell you waht they want. after all, thats the american way isnt it

I believe that the bylaws should ideally say something like that no person shall be elected to the same office position more than 2 consequetive (Sp?) years. This allows for the possibility of someone who assumes a position not being in that position more than 2 additional years.

Also, there definitely should be term limits for executive board positions, particularly those that have check writing capability. You want a degree of turn over to make sure there is no mishandling of funds or operations by having different people do the same jobs over time.

The only exception might be if there is no one to run for the position, then you'd want an ability to overide the limit for 1 time and position based upon a vote of a quorum (the executive board could be self-serving).

Checks & Balances. That's always the key!

Regards,

Ira
