Thanks for sharing about your events! Lyndon - would love it if you reported back on your events and what you thought worked well and not so well. Good luck and have fun!

My Parent Group has also kicked off a physical fitness initiative. We are hosting a Fathers vs. Boys Basketball Game on March 19th and a Mothers vs. Girls Volleyball Game on March 26th. A Let's Move Night is scheduled for Aprill 22nd. I look forward to sharing great success stories. To those of you who are looking for large number of people to turn out, please remember it's about the quality of what you are doing not the quantity.

We did a fitness night at our elementary school and it was a lot of fun. The first year we did it in the fall, it was not that well attended. This year we did it in February and highlighted the fact that kids would get a chance to use the climbing wall. I think this is a great winter event for families.

I have also had great success with Family Fitness Night. Our PE teachers helped us put it together, we had a number of fun events, and had more people at this event then any other that I have seen.

Agnesd-
Your event sounds awesome. Thanks so much for sharing some of the details with other leaders.

We are hearing more and more about parent groups being involved in fitness and health initiatives. Because of this we started a Healthy School Kids home page. Check it out and sign up to tap into some great ideas and FREE healthy school kids samples for you to share with your parents at school events.

Our PTSO hosted a Family Fun Fitness night which included Jump rope, hula hoop, Balloon pop relay, Shoe Box relay, and Line dancing. The purpose was to encourage a healthy lifestyle & show families how they can exercise without spending money joining a gym/fitness center. Every participant was given a bag of healthy snacks (homemade trail mix), and each family was given a booklet which included healthy snacks, recipes, health info such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, healthy heart, etc. It was a huge success!
