A Flu Shot Clinic

Our middle school PTO just formed in May, and the purposes of our start up is to promote volunteering/parent involvement, and be a communication avenue between school/parents. (Our middle school has never had a parent organization)
In discussions, the board realized being a middle school parent group we couldn't be like the other elementary school parent groups. So our thinking was to to try to tailor our activities to fit the middle school age group. We would like to provide parenting seminars, do less fundraising, and get more parent involvement to help our teachers.
Of course this being our first year, it is definately a learning experience. But to answer your questions - no we don't have any community relations problems, we just want to try and figure out our ninch in helping our small community middle school. (We have around 11,000 in our town.)
I didn't want our school nurse to provide any of the services unless she wanted to, as she is so busy at the middle school. But I thought she could at least point me in the right direction to investigate.
However, alas I have learned from her since the first posting that our school board has voted NOT to provide flu shots on school grounds, due to potential liability. (She was interested in doing this for the students) So, at least - "great minds think alike". Thank you for your thoughts.

Our town runs flu clinics at the middle school. You might want to talk to your town health department -- can the PTO help coordinate things? But you might have contract issues with using the school nurse (is it part of her job responsibilities / hours to give shots to community members after school hours?).

Do you particularly have bad community relations that you want to mend? Do you want to show the community something specific about your school?

Hi! I am still pretty new at this. In my surfing I have found some parent groups offering Flu shot clinics at their schools. I would like to know how this was organized. We have a school nurse that I will speak to Monday about this, but she is incredibly busy and I would want to make this as easy as possible to do. I have seen the PTA program info. but we are a PTO. Anyone out there done this before, and could give any ideas, suggestions? I thought this could be a great community service opportunity.
