Whew! It took some finageling of the phrasing, but I "goodsearched" and finally found this:

Prices - What Things Cost - 1950

It doesn't have ALL your specific items, but they do list quite a few.
This sounds like fun. :)

Boy, I am trying to do all kinds of google searching to try to find what things cost in the 1950's and I am finding nothing! Any search tip ideas? I want to try to find the cost of these things:

Hot dog
Bubble gum
Movie
Ice cream sundae
Chips
Soda pop
New Car
New House

Oh I LOVE that idea of the quiz game! I will definately do some searching!

One of the games I have planned already is a hula hoop contest and have 5 hula hoops. I think that will be fun.

I am also having a Name that tune game, the Limbo, a straw cover blowing contest, bubble gum blowing(the tricky part is the kids will have gloves on and have to unwrap the gum and get it in their mouth and chew the fastest!) contest and a game called toes and marbles where the kids take their shoes off so they just have socks on and it's a race to see who can get the most marbles in their bowl by using just their toes.

Hoola hoops were big back then, so you can always have a few of them around for the kids to play with.

Why don't you have a quiz station - kind of like the price is right.
Have a product name that a student would be familiar with Rice Krispies and you have the price of what it costs now. Then ask the kids how much it cost in the 50's. Some of this info is on those birthday cards or you can find it on line. The kids would get a kick out of how much a movie, ice cream sundae or soda cost back then. You can even have items that didn't exist then to trick them (cordless/cell phone)

Doing it for my one and only ~~ my son!

Have any of your schools hosted a 50's style sock hop at your school before?

Every year we usually hold a Fall Family Festival and after having that for the past 3 years I decided we should change it up this year. So, since I am the Chair of the event I decided on going with a Sock Hop. Actually it's being held next Friday 10-12 and I think I have it pretty well under control, but wanted some input from anyone that might have had one before.

I have about 7 or 8 games planned but I could really use some help in that area. Anyone know of any good games?

As far as food, we are having root beer & cherry coke floats, hot dogs, chili dogs, chips and popcorn. I have an Elvis Impersonator and a Marilyn Monroe impersonator coming too. Which our school is DK-5th so many won't know who they are but the parents will love it.

Any thoughts?
