Family Game Night - Amazing Race

Sounds like a fun night.

In keeping with the various country theme maybe you could have events that would represent those countries.

For example, you might be able to talk with a local Taekwondo or karate dojan and see if they would be willing to be part of this. Might be good for their business. Maybe the road block would be to have an adult (or child - they would use smaller boards) learn a martial art punch and break a board. That could cover Korea or China, depending on which form.

Maybe have a soccer net and a highschool or similar goalie where each member, taking turns (or not) tries to score. Get it in the goal to move on, or maybe have to score a certain number of times. This station could cover South America or something.

Maybe use a baseball (or whiffleball) station for Cuba.

Here's a good one I just thought of that could represent Scandanavia or something. Take two deck planks, like 8 feet long, and drill holes through each space about two feet apart. Drill enough holes for every family member, or maybe make it a maximum of four. Take rope and pass it through the hole and tie a knot. With the other side you can make a loop. I'm sure you've seen this before, where you have the four team members stand on the board, holding the looped rope end in each hand. Then as a team they must traverse a course, which could be nothing more than going to the cone, around, and back. This could simulate skiing.

For America maybe you could have an apple or cherry pie eating contect. Maybe even start the race off this way. One family member has to eat the entire pie (no hands) before their team can move on.

For Scotland you could possbly have a putting green setup where the team member has to keep going until they get a hole in one.

I'll keep thinking about it, maybe I'll come up with some other ideas.

One thing I would try is to come up with a station that would be beneficial for a smaller child/sibling. Make it a size thing, maybe a tube pass or something. Make it a road block and have it described like "The Biggest is not always the best". This way the team that would pick the smallest team member would pass more quickly.

Another idea would be a puzzle station. Maybe see if you could get a few different 20 or 30 piece puzzles. Have the team have to put the puzzle together until they can tell you what it is of. Would be great if you could get a puzzle of Big Ben, or the London Bridge, or Stonehenge, etc.

Anyway, really sounds like fun.

Hi All,

I am planning our Family Game Night for March 2008. I had the idea of the Amazing Race, but I can't quite get all the stations figured out. I was hoping that some of you could help me.

I was thinking of different stations that represented different countries. There will be like 4 different paths that people would take. That way not everyone goes to the same station at once.

Everyone will travel as a family. There will be road blocks and the other thing they would do. One of them only one family member does it and the other one everyone participates.

Any ideas on the stations?

Thanks,
Musiclady
