are you smarter than...

We just did this at a family night.. but it was very much condensed. First, the rule was that it had to be a grown-up and a child team together.. that solved the too hard/too easy question problem.... then, we had a team of judges whom we could ask for help...... each adult/child combo got 2 questions, and if they got at least one of the 2 questions right they won .25 scholar dollar to our school store.

We had preprinted currency with the VP's face one them and they were " scholar dollars" and on the back the game show host signed it, which would tell the school store the child had won 25 cents at that game.

We also did a Who Wants to be a Millionaire Spelling Bee and if kids spelled 2 words right then they also won 25 cents toward the school store, and the game show host signed the back of their one currency scholar dollar that they carried to the 2 games..

If they won at both games, they could play again, but not earn any more money toward our school store.

The good thing about limiting the questions to 2 is that it gave everyone a chance to play.. even with 2 questions, the waiting lines were long......

My son, actually our whole family, loves the Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader game show...

I'd like to put a spin on it and develop and spoof it into a family game night for our school next year...

I'm still brainstorming this, but so far this is what I have...

We'd pole all the children to use for the questions, unlike just the few who are always used on the game show... to include more chldren I'd say we could use first graders for the first grade questions... second graders for the second grade questions... etc. Get help or ideas from teachers for the questions...

Now the parents I'm stumpted on... Maybe we could do it sort of like a spelling bee style... Let the willing parents line up and go through the questions... Each answer a kindergarten question, then a first grade and so on... If you get it right you can proceed to the next level, but once you're wrong you're out... Keep going until only one person is left standing???

Or maybe use that same process but have the questions in a jar and the parents draw a question out, so it's random what grade level question you get... proceed spelling bee style until there is only one parent left and they are deemed "Smarter Than A Fifth Grader!"

Help, suggestions and ideas, please???

Our school doesn't do any type of game night now, and this is something I'd like to start. SO ideas to bring people in would be great...
