Environmental/Green Events

I had my Community Service class plant a tree at school and then place Department of Natural Resources posters in the hallways.

The project was actually my husband's idea. When he was in grade school (in 1974) all of the students in his class got to plant a pine tree on school property to celebrate Arbor Day. 30+ years later there's an amazing pine "forest" on the school grounds. He loves to drive by there when we go home to visit.

That's odd, this topic just came up at our elementary school today.

Our 2nd grade (I think) does a unit on recycling and they take a tour of our local waste dump and recycling plant. Topics discussed today were collecting cans at our various events and recycling them for cash as another part of their unit, plus, I saw something about a co. that recycles soda bottles and pays you for them so I should have info coming from them.
We already have a teacher who collects pop tops for Ronald McDonald and that program has really taken off with nothing more than an occasional reminder notice being sent home.
Hope this is what you needed. :)

Tim we don't do anything but there is an elementary school in our district that has a huge Earth Day Celebration, it is a day long event that teachers can take students around to over 30 different stations all related to nature. Some of the things they have is like bird house building, talks and displays on bees, wood displays and the making of things from wood, recycling displays, some one brings in llamas and so on and so on. It is all nature related, they do a great job! It is a huge event that they have held for years and the entire staff works together on it. Not sure what you are looking for?

Hi All -

Question for you: has anyone done anything with your group or a school event around the earth or environmental issues? Interested in any/all feedback.

Thanks in advance!
