I just received the info and a sample of the Build A Book from my Scholastic rep. The kit looks great and the cost
($6)isn't too bad, considering it's from Klutz. I don't think we could get enough families to pay that price though, we're in a pretty poor area although families come through for the Book Fairs.
We are also doing the One for Books program. I will be taking that info to local banks and grocery stores asking them to sell the "books" in their establishments. We did this last fall, selling to only our school families and brought in a quick hundred. I love that Scholastic matches each dollar with a book donation to children's literacy organizations and that we get to keep ALL the money we make from it AND we make a profit on it also! That's way good in my book.

Our school is currently doing the Buck a Book program. I think it is through Scholastic, but not sure. you can donate a buck and a paper book goes up on the wall in the media center and all money goes to purchase books and AR tests for the school. We've never had anything like this, and so far it is going really well. Plus it is an easy way to raise money.

Our pto is going to be running a "Build a Book" night as part of our Scholastic Book Fair. Just curious to see if anyone else has tried this and would like to share their experience. Also, has anyone ever looked to their communities for monetary donations to help purchase more books for their schools? As always, thanks for your responses.
