I agree (just for the record, I am not paranoid - our principal just runs by the book & codes  ).

Thanks for the thoughts.

Definitely put something in there about "this is for school families only" but if you're paranoid about getting a headcount you could say "Tickets are free but you must have a ticket to get in" or something along those lines. BUT, be aware that when you offer "free" tickets people order them even if they think they have a remote chance of coming and don't feel bad if they don't show up. We had a Family Game Night and I found that 20% LESS came than had ordered tickets. Therefore I had way too much pizza. So don't anticipate a larger crowd than the number of tickets you issued. just my experience....

When we have an event for the families of our school only, we always add a line that basically states:

This event (name it if you wish) is for XYZ students and their immediate families only. Thank you.

This is added to EVERY piece of paper that goes out concerning the event. We also add it to the daily announcements for the kids so they know it.

Our PTO has proposed to have a Family Fun Night (for the first time in many, many years) in January. Our principal is a little standoffish because she is concerned about the safety of the people attending. We are planning on having Prismatic Magic come to do a lasar show (which the kids love).

Here is the help I am looking for. We want to make this a free event (a give back for all of the great fundraising efforts from the family and also to show them where their fundraising dollars go). We are concerned with the fact of people bringing more than just their immediate family.

Has anyone done something like this before? I would love to think that 400 people would come back to school at night for this, but honestly, I doubt it - but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. The last thing we want to do is to turn people away at the door because of fire code.

We are looking for thoughts of how to have people respond with the amount of people they plan on bringing.

Any thoughts???
