how much is your license through them? How do you find out who in your district has aldready purchased one, is there an on-line list, or do you have to contact individual schools?
The full price is $350 for an annual license. The contact person with the company can give you a list of all of the other schools in your district already purchasing a license. We were able to agree with it from the standpoint that most us talk at all the different sporting events out there about our PTO's & what we're doing. We have a pretty good idea which PTO's are showing movies. I think we have 4 schools involved and get about a 10% discount, but don't quote that.

When we serve pizza, we usually go through Papa Johns. They will sell us a large pizza for $6.00 delivered - 1 topping. We have them cut it into 10 slices instead of the usual 8 (and ask them to really try and make them even). We start with 10 pizzas - which is 100 slices. The first 10 pizzas go really fast if you sell before the movie starts (and advertise that you'll have "real" food as well). Then once those pizzas are gone - we order as we go - as the pizza gets low. Usually 4 at a time till it looks like we won't sell anymore.
A note on pizza though...it's not a big moneymaker or profit. If you're doing this more for a "fun"raiser than a "fund"raiser, than pizza is the way to go. It's sooo simple and of course everyone loves it. If you're needing to raise some money at the movie night, then hot dogs and nachos are the way to go. They take more time to prepare, but the profits are huge. Sam's sells 80 all beef hot dogs for $11. Buns are $2.12 for 24. Sell hot dogs for $1.50 and your profit is huge. Hot dogs also freeze well. So...if you don't use them all, freeze what's left. Any unopened packages of buns can be returned. We wrap the hot dogs in the foil sheets (from the dollar store). Volunteers can "wrap" a bunch of hot dogs ahead of time in the foil and put in a warmer tray - so when the mad rush starts - you grab a pre-wrapped hot dog and go! Nachos are also so cheap. The big can of cheese is less than $6.00 and a huge box of chips is less than $4.00. We sell nachos for $2.00. We buy the clear plastic nacho bowls at Sam's as well. They seem to cost a lot, but one package will probably last you 3 movie nights and it's worth it.
Robin - on the license...the movie licensing USA people are very easy to work with. They will no exactly how much to charge and knows who has licenses, etc. The cost is based more on your enrollment. The average school is $75 for a one time license.
Good luck to everyone on their movie nights. It's going to be a blast. I also saw that Monster House is coming out in October. That could be a fun one to show as well.

I have the Family Fun Night movie packet. I haven't looked thru it yet. Are there instructions in there as to how to obtain a movie license? I take it that's a necessary piece to Family Movie Night?

We too are showing Cars. It's our first Movie night ever - it's outside due to space restrictions (small school w/no indoor space large enough).
Jenn, I noticed you have Pizza on your sheet. Some parents have suggested that we sell pizza that we get from someplace like Dominos, but I *really* don't know how many people to expect and *really* don't want to overbuy.
I am hesitant to overdo our first venture, however, by the 10th, we'll have changed daylight savings time and it'll be dark by 6:30ish. We don't want people showing up in the dark, but any earlier and it's during dinner hour.
