Healthy Festival

Prizes-pencils, little notepads, fun erasers, or get snack size fruit snacks and snack crackers. We have a ring toss with a local beverage distibutor contributing pop and juices-you could ask for just the juices.

We gave our kids a choice of a book or cake at our event. I would like to see ours change to all books, but couldn't convince them to do that last year.

We have used high school and middle school volunteers. We got tons of kids from the middle school. I think they remembered what fun they had when they came to the carnival and after their shift they stayed and played the games. Maybe ask some of your older kids(7th and 8th) if they would be interested in helping with the games. There were some areas where we still needed parents/teachers such as ticket sales and the food area, but when the parents knew they would only have to work a short shift and not get stuck in a place all night, we had plenty of happy volunteers.

Our school has done a complete restructuring this year. We are really focusing on health & nutrition - we even have good healthy lunches this year - no fried food! Very exciting.

We are all trying to work hard to be healthy in all our events & fundraisers too. So for our Fall festival we need healthy & nutritous ideas.

So far I am suggesting a book walk instead of a cake walk & adding more athletic type booths like a basketball shoot & hula hoop contests. But I am stumped for prizes. Instead of candy & toys that break in 2 days I need some ideas. So far I have apples which are great for fall & stickers. The issue we also have is having prizes that are good for elementary & middle school kids (we're K-8). Any ideas would be sooooooo appreciated.

Also most of the HS in our area require community service to graduate. I was thinking of seeing if we could get HS students to help run booths. Has anyone done this & had success. I just think it would help in not burning parents out.
