Can you share how you're getting donated popcorn/soda? My inclincation is to think grocery store, but I'm new at this and all ideas are greatly appreciated!

We are having new this year a Fine Arts Night.

The music teacher already had a small musical play planned, we wanted to do an art display of our students art, added this onto the musical night and are having a soup supper to boot. Something for everyone. Free admission, and dinner, if they choose.

We are also having a movie night. We buy the license $75, free admission, get donated popcorn and soda, and charge $1 for popcorn/soda combo. Fairly inexpensive for parents.

Reading Night, we are asking business locals to come in and read a winter favorite. We will be serving cookies and punch. Free admission also.

Our school has very little parent support, so we have opted to work with what we have....teacher support! Our teachers have a huge desire to take our school from so-so to fabulous! Given our situation, we have decided that our main focus for the 06-07 school year is to do one main fundraiser, and fund 3 (hopefully 4) FREE family events. Our first one was our back to school event, which we did at Chuck E Cheese....we purchased 1 slice of pizza per child, CEC provided 10 tokens per child, and as a bonus....everything we purchased (plus everything our parents purchased) we earned 15% on. We had a great event , with NO volunteers required, and earned $100 to boot! Our fall fundraiser will fund our PTO operations, plus 2-3 other events. Our January Spaghetti dinner is provided mostly by donations, and staffed by our teachers (again, we are blessed with the best!), and our end of the year event is a skate party at the local roller skating rink. Again, no major volunteers necessary (though this one costs a bit more). We also do a local parade, which only takes minimal planning, a few volunteers to organize everything, and it is free (and fun!) for the families and kids. Work with what you have....if you don't have the volunteer involvement, there are still options!

You've come to the right place, leopardmom. You've got to check out:

www.schoolfamilynights.com

It's a PTO Today program designed to do exactly what you're asking -- help parent groups put on great, free nights that help build parent involvement.

Good luck,

Tim

I am new to the PTO board this year and would love to hear Fun Family Night ideas. I would love to add a couple Fun Family Nights to are calendar this year, but don't know where to begin. It would be nice to have a couple of events that are free to attend. Any ideas?

We haven't had a carnival at our school in years. Our past presidents said they were to much work and not enough turn out. We have had a couple requests to bring back the carnival, but I wouldn't even know where to begin.
