Teacher Volunteers w/Carnival

We do a similar type of event, but the teachers get to keep all of their booth earnings. They also provide all of the supplies needed at their booths and they ask the parents from their classrooms to volunteer at the booth. It's great to see teachers and parents working together outside of the classroom and having a good time while doing it!

Because the teachers are responsible for getting items, donations, etc. for their booths, it's very little cost to the PTO.

Thats a great idea. We put a sign up sheet a week before the event and teachers sign up for time slots for the games. It works really well and the kids enjoy seeing their teachers.

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share with you something we're doing new this year. I wanted to have mostly teachers/staff run the carnival games & activities this year. This way it frees up my board members to take care of other items. We have a strict policy that only board members may handle PTA funds at functions. So, I made sure I have a board member helping with the food section, selling of the carnival cards and at the raffle/silent auction station. Another board member and games chairperson will be able to rome around and be sure everything is running smoothly with the games/prizes; the food chair of the Carnival Committee will be able to oversee the food section and I (president and chair of the carnival) can "hover" like a helicopter to be sure everything is going smoothly. To be able to pull this off... we offered 20% of our profit from the carnival to be split evenly amongst the teachers and staff who work the carnival. They are required to sign up for a game/activity or food and work 4:45-8:15 (carnival is 5-8). Well, this year we have 27 teachers and staff members signed up to work a game/activity or food. We figured this way we ended up getting more help from the teachers/staff and we typically give a nice chunk at the end of the year to the school anyway. This way the teachers will get to decide where/how they need the money for their classrooms or grade level. The money is deposited into their school account and they still must submit their receipts and have their purchases approved before being reimbursed. The kids win... they get to see their teachers/staff members at a fun event and they will benefit from the items their teachers can purchase for their classrooms...we win by having more help and the teachers win by having more say in what they need funds spent on.

I'll let you know how it all works out after our carnival March 31.

Holly
