Field Day

Think of some field day events when we were kids and use things that are readily available at the school or can be borrowed. (egg toss, sidewalk art w/chalk, badminton, basketball, lawn darts, tug of war, relay races, kickball games, etc.) You can also ask your area police department to provide a radar gun (they'll operate it) to record the speed of a baseball throw. Ask the fire department to send a fire truck so the kids can check it out.
You can also ask area businesses to donate food and/or money to help cover the cost and/or request that each student donate a particular item. (Kind= buns, 1st grade weiners, etc.)

Best of luck!!

Our school does a walk-a-thon to raise money.

We have volunteers cut out award ribbons on the Ellison Machines and stamp the name of the race on them. They are all colored coded and the kids love them.

Good Luck.

How about a dinner fundraiser with the theme being the rodeo/wild west. Some ideas for food came from www.coolest-kid-birthday-parties.com/child-game.html

have a good ol' barbeque and use cowboy hats or straw baskets with a gingham napkin or bandanna to serve corn, potato chips, trail mix, popcorn etc.

And now to the "real" stuff:

*Buffalo wings
*Bronco beans
*Horse Feed (shreded lettuce)
*Barbeque chicken, beef, ribs etc.
*Haystacks (shoestring potatoes)
*Cornbread
*Chili n' chips
*Weiner roast (hot dogs)
*Potato, Coleslaw and green salads
*Sausages
*Corn on the cob
*Wagon-wheel pasta
*Roast foil-wrapped potatoes on an open fire (if you can have one)
*Mashed potatoes and gravy
*Watermelon (and you can have a watermelon seed spitting contest-this can be great fun!!)

*Root beer
*Ginger ale
*Cactus juice (Lemon-lime soda. When you're about to serve it add scoops of lime sherbet and watch it bubble! You can also make green ice cubes with green food coloring to add to the whole cactus effect.)
*Sarsaparilla (Before the party, drop cherries in each ice cube slot and freeze. Then, at the party, put one tablespoon of grenadine syrup into each glass, drop a frozen ice cube, then pour cream soda over the ice and watch a pinkish foamy drink appear).

Tip: Put up a bevarge outpost (could be your kitchen counter). You can call it the Saloon. Have a dressed-up parent or sibling be the saloon keeper and serve soda pop in tall mugs.

Good luck.

Hi! Our gym teacher usually did field day. The pto is asked to provide popsicles for the students & pizza for the volunteers. (some were parents & some were honor society students from the high school) Maybe hold bake sales at school, the grocery stores, k-mart... The ones held out side of school, I would do it by donation. Good luck!!!

Here's a link below with some field day ideas:

www.pecentral.org/lessonideas/fielddays/fielddaysindex.asp

Not sure it's what you're looking for but it's a start. I found tons of great field day ideas by just googling the term "field day ideas".

I helped with field day last year and our "division of labor" worked pretty well. We had people in charge of the following categories:
1) food
2) volunteers
3) awards
4) events
Maybe one more thing but I can't remember right at this moment. It ran very smoothly.

As far as raising money for the event, well, maybe you could sell field day t-shirts and mark them up a few dollars.

Good luck!

Our school is planning for Field Day 2006, but has $0 contributed to the PE department to pull it off. The theme is rodeo/wild west and I need some ideas for our PE teachers for activities and how to raise money to pay for them. We have almost 600 students and it's not a wealthy school. Field Day is in early May. Help!
