We are attempting one early next month. We charge 10.00 a kid, 5.00 for siblings (if parents volunteer to help, their kid is free). Starts at 6:30 pm and ends at 10:00 pm. As far as age limit, we only take potty trained children. We offer snacks, games, movies,ect... We did have our laywer put together a "we are not liable" form for us. Of course, all of the volunteers are fingerprinted and have had a background check. We are having the parents sign up first so that we know how many volunteers to have. Some of the parents even are CPR Certified and\or nurses.

In my neck of the woods, the Red Cross offers a babysitting course. If you need sitters, I would start there.

Around here in order to work the before/after care you only have to have a high school diploma or GED and be employeed by the school. Same as a sub aide. But as per NCLB aides are supposed to have the Paraprofessional Educators Certif or an associates degree or its equivilent. I would think your BOE would want as a staffer there. But that is something you would need to run by your principal and your BOE.

For our Breakfast with Santa/Santa's Secret Shop we did not charge at the door the first year we did it. I can't remember how much we charged for the breakfast. I am thinking about $2.00 maybe $3.00. That was for 2 sausage/biscut a milk and a juice. Coffee and hot cocoa were .50 extra. It's been awhile. Anyhow we also charged for pics with Santa. We used a polaroid camera and we had a card making machine also. This event was opened to the whole community.

Our FRC send forms for their "Fall Into Reading" and "Spring into Math." These are free events. The forms just ask the child's name and the parent's name that will attend. In the fall they serve pizza and in the Spring they serve ice cream. The forms give them a good idea of how much food they need to order, how many volunteers they need, and how many door prizes they can try to get.

Has anybody ever run one of these? We're thinking of doing it during December so parents can go Christmas shopping or whatever. I'd be interested in details like:

how much did you charge?
lower age limit for kids?
activities for the kids?
feed dinner (i.e. pizza) or just snacks?
how many parents per how many kids?
any kind of release form required?

Thanks!
