We started doing a trick or trunk at our school about 3 years ago. There are many people who don't believe in Halloween so their children don't get to trick or treat and this gives them a chance to get candy when they otherwise would'nt. We close off the parking lot to incoming vehicles, park in all available spaces and have a bucket of candy in the back of each one. The teachers give their students bags and we start with the little ones (K) and they go through the parking lot in a line to each car and 'trick or treat'. It's really been a huge success! Oh yeah, all of the candy is gotten through donations from the kids, the class that donates the most candy (which is also used for fall festival) gets a pizza party, which is a great incentive to bring in lots!

I have heard of a local church doing this. It was Halloween time and all the people parked in the church parking lot just like they would at church. In the parking spots. They would open their trunks have the kids all dressed up in costumes go car to car instead of house to house. Works great in areas where you don;t have many houses. I know they had creppy music too. The kids loved it. Especially little ones that can't walk house to house with those little feet.

I have never heard of "Trunk R Treat." Please elaborate! Is this instead of Trick or Treat? Is it opened up to the public? What, exactly, does everyone do?

We do Trunk R Treat at our church fall family party and we have such a good response and it has become a competition between several members of our church to out do one anothers displays. Last year we had the following themes patriotic, we had flags, candy in red, white and blue wrappers, and my husband wore a George Bush mask, Someone made cutouts of all the planets and dressed up like an alien and handed out mars and milky way bars. We gave everyone in attendance a token to vote with, whenever they decided on their favorite decorated trunk they dropped the token in the container placed at the car. We have a blast!!!

We do games and rides at ours. It's like a mini carnival. Limit the rides to only a few though or else the candy won't be taken. We have contests for best decorated trunk, costume, car. Make sure you have them start at one end only. This way there is no "cutsies" and a mass of people trying to get through.

We would like to do the Trunk or Treat idea that I read about somewhere but I don't have any ideas of what to add to it to make it even more fun. Any ideas you can share would be greatly appreciated.
