Fall Festival

Our school will be holding its annual fall festival in October. We have over 20 games that we paid for and a parent a couple of years ago drew up the plans and built them. We have storage off campus for these items. A big part of the fall festival is our basket raffle. We assign a basket theme to a set of classes, the kids in the classes bring items for the baskets. The teachers together as a team provide the baskets. We have themes such as Pasta, Dogs, Cats, Mom, Dad, Cookies, Ice Cream Sundae, chili, etc. Sometimes with everything that is brought we are able to make more than one basket. It is very profitable for us. We sell raffle tickets that range from 1, 2 or 3 dollars. This price depends on the value of the basket. We even have our superintendent of schools participate in the raffle. He donates his time to come read a story to a student and his class and to have snacks with them. He also participates in a lunch with a student at a special table in the cafeteria. Last year a teacher put her own name in and won and she shared the lunch with her own grade level team. The PTO out of the budget for the fall festival paid for the lunch and the snacks.

We also have two clowns that we hire to make animal balloons all night for the kids. This is pricy but they stay busy the whole night. We have a DJ that plays music in the Cafeteria and has the kids doing line dances and plays games with them. We have a moonwalk and slide in the gym. We used to have it outside in the parking lot but it tended to be to windy in October and it freaked some of the parents out when it would collapse. We have games such as rebound, plinko, 3 in a row, lollipop tree, floating pumpkins and ducks (pumpkins because of the fall), fishing pole game, 2 little put putt games, Dig for Gold, basketball throw for little kids and older kids, balloon darts, cakewalk(we have volunteers make the sweets for this). The cakewalk stays busy all night until the goodies run out.

A very popular part of our festival is the post office. As a writing project each student writes a letter to their parents. They are available at the festival to be picked up by the parents for one ticket. The parents can then reply to their child for one ticket. This is a must to have I read the letters sometimes just to see what the kids say and they are so cute

We pre sell tickets five for one dollar up until the day before the festival. The night of the festival they are 4 for a dollar. Ticket sales are steady all night.

Everything at the festival costs tickets except the basket raffle where we ask them to pay cash or check. They are able to take the items from the basket raffle home that night. We draw about 30 minutes before the festival is over.

It is a lot of hard work, but it is well worth it. We have volunteers come help from within the school. We have volunteers from the service club at the high school. The teachers and staff and sometimes other members of their families volunteer too. Our school is located in the middle of a subdibision and anyone is able to come.

Our PTA purchased a shed and we store our games and other things in the shed on the school property. Parent calling contest: Blindfold the parent (mom, dad) line up all children in a line once all parents are blindfolded _do about 5 -10 at a time- the children are all switched around. Then the kids are to call their parents by saying Mom, Dad - the parent/child to get together first is the winner. This was absolutely fun to watch as well as be a part of. 10 kids saying mom all sound somewhat the same. Good Luck

Wow bu5ym0m! Sounds like you have a lot of creativity flowing through your group. I have a question...where do you store all of these games after the festival? We have a serious lack of space! Oh, and what exactly is a parent calling contest? Sounds interesting! Thanks in advance for your response.
