Try alohafriends.com for some great info! They have the English to Hawaiian name translations, as well as recipes, decorating ideas and more.

Have fun!

At a summer camp one year a couple of teachers did a short presentation to pre-k and elementary kids about the alphabet and a few of the native words. I found it very interesting. The background music was to "Tiny Bubbles" and they blew bubbles. It was short and infomative. It held my four year-olds attention. This kind of station could be set up for a short "rest time."

There is also a website that has a list of Hawaiin names, (english to hawaiin translated). I'll have to dig around and find it.

Hula lessons were a big hit with us. We had extra leis & skirts for them to wear if they didn't have one and we used the soundtrack to Lilo and Stitch. The kids loved it!!

Debbie,

Where did you find your Hawaiian alphabet?

We had a luau for our cub scout's blue and gold banquet just two weeks ago. One of the ideas I came up with was to let everyone create a new name using just the Hawiian alphabet. Everyone received a name tag when they came in and I had the alphabet and markers ready. I'm sure some of the names meant nothing but everyone had fun. You could even extend that idea and have them come up with the meaning of their new name.

Good luck and have fun!!!!
