Ideas needed for a jungle theme

Jemicki,

Do the vines too! They turned out so cool, we got tons of compliments from the kids and adults. When we cleaned up that night, some of the kids actually took some home for their rooms.

Hey Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat.

This sounds really cool. Our church is doing Jungle Theme VBS. Do you have any pictures that you could post so that I could get a look at what the finished product should look like? Thanks.

We used a Luau theme for two years. Our Carnival was held in our Gym and our building is set up where you come in the lobby and down a halway to get to the gym. We made these great palm trees out of brown butcher paper for the trunks. The trees were ceiling to floor in the hallway. We took an 12' section of brown paper and twisted it but not too tight. Then we took 2 more and made a tree trunk. Next we took dark green butcher paper in 4' lengths and used the scrunching technique to make leaves. Lastly we took light brown paper and made coconuts. We had approximately 10 trees throughout the hallway and it was a really cool effect.

Additionally we took some string, 2" dowel and stuffed animal monkeys (borrowed from PTO members)and hung them near the trees from the ceiling of the hallway.

If I'm not being descriptive enough let me know and I can email with more details.

Good luck.

It just so happened that the Family Fun issue fpr this month had a birthday party plan with a jungle theme. They had a great idea for vines made out of paper bags. I made one this morning-super easy and cheap if I can get the bags donated. Heading to the local grocery stores!!

Take carpet poles or plumbers pipe and brown bags. Cut the bottom of the bag and slide them over the pole. It creates a tree trunk crinkled effect. Then get cheap umbrellas and put green leaf shaped paper on them. Stick the umbrella in the top of the tube and into a sand bucket. There are your jungle trees. I loved that project.

Check out www.familyfun.com and in the search field put jungle. These ideas are for parties, but it may help. For palm trees that I made last year for a graduation I went to a furniture store and asked for refrigerator boxes to make tree trunks. I also used these to make surfboards for a luau theme.
