I read about one some time back where they did a book drive for a month before and if you donated 5 or more books you didn't pay admission. They started the night off with a local author. They played games for books and had drawings for books and gift certificates for local bookstores. So much of every hour was set aside for reading whether in groups, silently, on your own, or to someone else. I loved this idea for a Title 1 night or as part of Accelerated Reader but I was worried about getting enough volunteers.
The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation.
