Spa day Moms/Poker tournament Dads

19 years 8 months ago #118448 by ScottMom#1
A school here used the local beauty and spa school to hold a similar day for moms and just had then charge 10-15% over their already cheap prices and then they gave 25% to the school. So many of our parents don't speak English so events where the parents are seperated from the kids who translate for them don't seem to do well.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

I've been thinking about doing a poker tournement also. I do know you have to have a license from chairty gaming commission. We thought about a 50.00 buy in and depending on the turnout (poker is huge here) then we split the pot 50/50 school gets 50% then the other 50% can be broken down for top 2 winners. That's as far as I've gotten on my thinking. Great idea though!

Does anyone have any OTHER Dad ideas that would be similar to a Spa day for Moms?

I wouldn't care, my husband has a poker group. But I think our parents would freak. Especially being in the southern bible belt.

We had an idea come up at one our last meetings.

We would like to sponsor a SPA day for our Moms around Mother's Day but were stumped on what to do for Dad's.

Texas Hold-em poker is very popular right now and we thought if we held a 'noodle' poker tournament and BBQ rib feed.

HOWEVER, I wondering if that would seem to lean to other side of the tracks too much.

I'm looking for your feedback on what you would think if you saw the PTO sponsoring a Dad's "pampering" night (so to speak) in the form of a 'noodle' poker tournament.

*noodle means that they would be playing with noodles which they could turn in for prizes or chips at a real casino in town.

Thanks for your help.
