We have ours in the gym which has doors that feed directly to the outside. We start at 7:30 and quit serving at 8:15. School starts at 8:30. We have lots of kids that eat breakfast at school and they are invited to come even if they don't have a dad with them. Kids arrive with the dads and go directly to the gym. They are allowed to go to the classroom after, but this has been questioned by teachers who don't like people staying in the classrooms while they are doing hallway duty or just wondering around without anyone really knowing where they are or what they are doing but no one wants to stop this because it is the only time a lot of the dads ever set foot in the school. Good luck.

The irony of commitment is that it’s deeply liberating-in work, in play, in love. The act frees you from the tyranny of your internal critic, from the fear that likes to dress itself up and parade around as rational hesitation. To commit is to remove your head as the barrier to your life. --Anne Morris

When y'all have your Donuts with Dad days--how does it work if a child doesn't have a dad show up? Do they get to go too? What time do you have it(before school starts?) In other words, at 8:00, do the children go to their classrooms and then meet their dads in the cafeteria or do they just arrive at school with their dads and go eat donuts? Sorry for the dumb questions, just trying to figure out the logistics. How long does the event last? Do they do anything else besides eat donuts and visit?
Thanks

We just had our 1st Donuts with Dad. We are a school of about 550. I sent out flyers and got 200 back with around 430 kids/parents attending. I sent a donation letter to walmart, because they set aside an amount each month for donations. They divide it between all the requests and give gift cards so you can buy what you need. Unfortunatley, our store is new and they never got their budget together. We do have an Entenmans store near us. I called them and they donated 52 dozen boxes of donuts. I bought another 10 boxes of dounut holes. Tropicana(located in town) donated all the juice. It seemed to be a huge success. Tons of dads showed up. I worried we would run out of food, but everything went well. We will do muffins with mom in the spring and I think I'll see if Sams will donate. Good Luck.

RSVPs have never really worked with our school. We have 466 kids and get about 22 doz donuts. We haven't had much luck getting businesses to donate but Walmart sells 1 doz glazed for $2.88 and this seems to be the best we have found. Hope all goes well for you. Don't forget to have a table of school tshirts and other spirit items available for sell during these functions because this is the only time most Dad's are at our school and the only time we get them for shirts!

I had my first Doughnuts with Dad on September 9th. I had 500 dad's and students show up. The funny thing is I had only planned for 200. I was running around alot, but what a wonderful problem to have. On September 28th I had a MUffins with Mom and had around 485 Moms and kids. If parents couldn't come then Grandmother, Grandfather, etc.... came. This is a wonderful thing to see parents bonding with their kids.... :D [/LIST]

We held our first Donuts with Dad yesterday. We had such a turn out!!! Next year will will definatley ask dads to RSVP. We have 177 students, 65 families. We had over 200 people. Almost everyone came. The children who's fathers were not able to make it, came with grandparents. We contacted a local bakery. They gave us a discount on 17 dozen donuts. My family made cinnamon rolls and another family gave a huge fruit platter. We were wiped out of food. We took polaroids of the dads with the kids. They Loved it. We didn't charge the families for anything. Our PTG payed for it. We did list the bakery and families that helped. It was great. I have found it easier to speak to some dads today. They are recognizing me from yesterday. One even offered to help with the playground!

Sometimes it is just nice for the PTG to have an event at no cost. It helps the families to appreciate the fundraising that gets done at other times.
