I know this may seem strange, but in Florida our local YMCA holds a "Dive in" nights at the local pool. We have had so much fun with watching a movie on a raft or noodle. So, this fall we are going to have FMN at our school for when the pool is too cold. The kids kept asking us last year and we were so busy with hurricanes and repairs. We just never got around to it. This year we are hoping for a much more "friendly" Atlantic.

We have been doing Family Movie Night for 3 or 4 years. This year alone we had 5 movie nights, all on a Friday night. Our attendance is great. We found the newer the movie the more attendance.
Our Finding Nemo movie night was the biggest. We sent home invitations on water looking paper with foam fish glued to it. One parent commented on how fun it was to get such a cute invite instead of a plain flyer.
We don't charge for anything. We provide popcorn, gummy bears, soda (years ago,now just water). We rented a popcorn machine for years but this year we bought our own. On Nemo night we had swedish fish instead of gummy bears. We buy big bags of gummy bears at Costco and put them in small dixie cups and each person gets one cup of them. We use to serve soda but the kids spilled more than they drank. I have heard of schools serving popsicles instead of drinks.
Kids bring their pillows and blankets and lay on the mats used for gymnastics in P.E.
Our movie nights are now so popular that this summer we are working with another local group to put on a movie night outdoors. It will have a drive in feel. People from the whole community will be invited. We are hoping to do one each month this summer.
I am so excited.

We are about to have our first Family Movie Night on April 15th. All plans are in motion. However, I ran into a snag getting a movie license. Thought I would pass the information I received along...Movie Licensing USA (recommended by PTO Today) was unable to license us for a 20th Century Fox Movie-The Pagemaster. I have been referred to Criterion Pictures USA (1-800-890-9494). They do cover 20th Century Fox and I do not have to change our movie choice. Just in case anyone runs into the same dilemma.

Hi! We are a K-4 school of 450 students and our second Family Dinner and a Movie Night was in February. We have 4 tv's already installed in our cafeteria, so we encouraged families to bring lawn chairs, blankets, etc. This year we showed Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and at the end gave out Wonka Bars, one with a Golden Ticket, where one of our 1st graders won a new bike. We ask for $1.50 per person (and that is really just so we can determine attendance) and we serve pizza, salad, fruit, and milk.
It was so much fun to watch those parents and kids rip open their Wonka Bars at the end looking for the Goden Ticket. :D

Yikes! I didn't know you had to have a liscense to have a movie night. Our school had one and we didn't get a liscense. But, I was under the impression that as long as you did not charge an admission, you didn't have to have a liscense. But, if you did charge, then you did!

Thanks Shabrach for the great info. I would love to see a copy of the flyer you sent home as well as the computer made ticket. I am not sure how to get your email. The drawing for the movie at the end of the night is a fantastic idea.
