Could I get more info on the guidelines and the student info sheet. Any tips on getting it started?

Thanks in advance.

Here is the art show post. I hope it is helpful and I aplogize for the length.

I'll tell you a little bit about what we did;

Our art show was run at the end of February so I petitioned the classes to start sending the PTO artwork the first of February. The deadline for
turning items in, was 2 days before the show. (it was enought time for us but we had an awesome parent doing the framing). I have some guideline information for students if you would like a copy.

Also, we went around to each POD (our K-4 school is divided into PODs) and gathered the students and gave a short presentation on what kind of art would be accepted. We brought samples (my own children's artwork from home) and made sure to emphasize the importance of "giving it a try" even if they think they can't draw.

We included macaroni art, marble painting, pencil on the back of copy paper etc.

We only accepted artwork that could be hung from the wall and had to be a specific size.

Our show was juried but each child recieved an "Outstanding effort" ribbon for entering. We
contacted 1 parent, 1 high school art student, 1 community member, 1 member from the local college and the art teacher from our
elementary school. We needed 5 to be more impartial. We created a schedule and guidelines for them to follow and an outline of the evening. (if you would like those forms let me know I'll send them to you)

I scheduled our local Middle School Theater Group, The Playback Theater, to do a performance during the last hour of the art show during the final judging period. During that time the
judges met in the staff lounge and narrowed down the choices to 2 in each grade. One 'chosen' one and one honorable mention. All of which received something. The "chosen" pieces received a basket of art supplies mostly
donated form local businesses and the honorable mentions received a packet of oil pastel crayons (because we had so many of those donated).

There was an appetizer buffet with items made by PTO board members and volunteers (kid friendly faire, little pbj sandwiches, meatballs, cocktail weiners, fishy crackers etc.) and we kept the decorations simple using only gold and
silver heilium filled balloons placed around the area and large posters of famous artwork (van gough, monet etc,) placed on easels throughout the area as well. Each piece was framed in black construction paper with the name of
the student and their class.

It went VERY well and my only regret really is that the time between when people arrived and when the play performance began was too long. ALSO, we would try and have the judges co-ordinate sooner. That took longer than
anyone thought it would.

I hope this is helpful.

We plan to do the same show again next year but include other forms of art such as sculpture, textiles, and paper mache to name a few.

Why don't you post some info about your Art Show here? I'd love to hear about it and I bet you're going to get emails for the next year if you don't! Was this a fund raiser or just for fun? What went on at this event? Would love to hear all the details. Our Parents' Group generally does not put on events like this (no reason we couldn't) but it seems like everything we do revolves around raising money.
Thanks
Shelly
