May I suggest that you talk to the parents of your kids friends first about helping you, as you now have something in common. Then prepare some fun events or a get-to-know you event so that parents get to meet each other.

I wish I could help you out, I'm the president at my son's Elementary School and we have a hard time, can't imagine what it's going to be like next year at the Middle School. I would take Lisa's advice and look around this site, they have great ideas. We just have to try to get through to some of the parents and hopefully the others will follow in time.
Good Luck :)

Hi Kellykeane1968-
Good for you for taking this on! As I am sure you are already aware, middle school involvement is a lot different from elementary school. The trick for middle school events is to come up with events that the kids think are cool. Here is an example of what one PTO did for an event: www.ptotoday.com/pto-today-articles/arti...89-fun-and-eco-games

We have several good articles about running a MS PTO/PTA here:

www.ptotoday.com/middle-school

Also, there a few middle school-specific files on our file exchange:

In terms of getting parents to volunteer (for both schools) have you tried the 2-hour Power program yet? Many schools get great results from doing this program.

I have decided to take over the job of pta president for my daughter's 8th grade next year. I am pta president at my younger children's school and I have that down pretty well, even though most of the time we have NO volunteers for anything. I have to come up w/ some info to hand out to parents next week and I am at a loss!! HELP!!! Does anyone have any ideas of how to get parents/kids involved? What sorts of things go on at the junior high level??
