Our school does have something similiar, but we don't go into the janitors, bus drivers etc.
For our PTO meetings we have at least one teacher at each meeting they take notes as to what is going and take them back to their grade level coordinator. In return they also let us know issues or ideas that are going on the school end. It works out really well. You mentioned student so I am assuming these are older students which I think would be great and get them involved. We are an elementary school, so the kids wouldnt really work in our situation, but I am thinking of mentioning this at our Middle School PTO meeting.
As for the individual grade level coordinator this works really well because if we are doing something specific with a greade or an entire school event you only need to keep in contact with them and your not having to run around checking with all the teachers. The coordinator is the liason between her grade teachers and the PTO. We have done it this way for years and its great this way.

This sounds like an interesting idea. Thought I'd bump up your question to see if there in anyone who has tried something similar in their school.
Recently our school principal and I were discussing the possibility of changing the way our PTO is set up. One idea that she had was to designate one teacher, one parent, and one student to represent each grade level, as well as a representative from each level of support staff (janitors, bus drivers, cafeteria staff, etc). I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this or if any of you have any ideas or thoughts on this. I appreciate any and all feedback you can offer
