How did you celebration turn out and what activities did you have on the program?

We are currently working on plans for our closing celebration, which is revving up to be a pretty big event. We're going to invite former students and staff, as well as our community friends, neighbors and business partners. I'm just trying to hone in on a name. In the running:

Again, thanks for your help. I will share the details of our projects as they unfold - maybe they will help someone else who is going through the unfortunate experience of closing their school.

Our small elementary school is closing at the end of this school year - we will be merging with two other schools due to low enrollment and budget constraints.

For those of you who have been through a school closure, is there anything your parent group or school district did to help smooth the transition? The parent groups from the three schools will be getting together soon to talk about some possible joint projects to bring the kids together this year, and we have a few ideas, but I'd love to hear about your experiences. And while this joint group will work on activities to involve all three schools, I also want to make sure that we are doing some special things at our own school to celebrate our tight-knit school community and our traditions and history.

Did your district have any kind of transition committee or team in place to help prepare students, families and staff? This is going to be a huge adjustment for everyone involved, as the three schools have different community cultures and demographics. I'd love it if I could find a motivational speaker or presenter that could offer some words of wisdom/guidance.
