Hi Jeff--welcome to the boards and I suspect you have found a whole "board" full of mentors by coming here :). We use a ton of different techniques to get our information out included trifolds, websites, emails, newsletters. I can send you copies of them if you email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. At our open house we keep the table looking bright with balloons, we have manilla envelopes with the committee explanation on one side and a sign up sheet on the other and then we can just fold them and carry them home for future use or hand them to an already established committee chair. We also sell our spirit wear and that brings a lot of folks over. One year we let the children of the adults ring a bell every time there was a new member...which resonated across the open house area. Anything to get attention :)...good luck...

I have just taken over the roll as President of the PTO of our K/5 school in Muncie IN. My wife and I went to 6 meetings last year and we always seemed to be one of the 4 parents and teacher who showed up and got involved.

I have been able to find some great information here on the threads and I am still looking for more great information from you successful full timers. It looks like we will be building this group from the ground up. My first priority is to get more people involved. I would like to start with our upcoming Open House by setting up some type of information table. I was thinking of collecting names and Email addresses so we can send out updates of plans giving us a direct line to all the parents.

What I would like to know is has anyone had success at an open house and what did you do to attract and get people involved? I like the idea I saw of the survey and would like to have something that can give us feedback from the parents and teachers.

Also if anyone would be willing to take me on as a mentor I would appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Jeff Welch
