Splitting PTO Funds

You could suggest that you determine the per child amount and transfer the funds accordingly. Then see what the other PTO wishes to do. I suggest that the full board of both PTO's sit down and discuss how best to ensure that both schools have the funds needed for the year.
You can also discuss your means of fundraising since you've made more in the past and assist the other school in raising their incoming funds for next year. Working together during the transition year may help pave the way for parents to become more comfortable with the change as well.

Thanks for your input. Unfortunately, the two schools are not equal with respect to funds carried. The school I am involved with generally brings in more. I know we will have a lot of other transition issues, so I am hoping to have the finances figured out before we are against the wall to make a decision. I am thinking figuring out a 'per child' amount for both schools and then transfering the funds between the two schools based on how many children move may be the fairest way to do this. Does anyone have experience with an issue like this? I appreciate all your comments.

I guess I would consider the option of splitting the funds based on the number of students as the most equitable way to divide the monies. Are the schools relatively equally matched as to funds?

Hello! Our school district currently has two K-5 schools with separate PTOs. Next year, they are considering changing the structure to K-2 in one school and 3-5 in the other. What do we do with the PTO money that has been raised by the separate PTOs? Should the money stay within the school or should we try to split the funds based on the number of students moving between the two schools? I know some parents will be upset they contributed to the balance in one school and now their children may be moving to the other school. We would like to have a plan in place this year in anticipation of this change.
