If you are committed to your child/children and their education, you need to work WITH the school's principal; not against him. He might have felt that he was being attacked when the demand for equal treatment was made since he was like saying he wasn't doing his job. If you push him, he may stop not only your meetings, but any other events or activities you want to do in your school. Then none of the kids will benefit. It seems that for your 1st year, things got off on the wrong foot.

The President needs to request a meeting with the Prin. to discuss the upcoming school year. Be understanding of his position and communication the desire to assist him in addressing the needs of the school--whether its drug prevention, school safety, supplies, programs, or whatever. You need him on your side.

If the drug issue continues, then that is something to address as a parent; not a PTO, with your board of education. The PTO should not take a position.

Last year we had a little controversy at the end of the year. It was our first year as a PTA and a first year Principle. Our school district is very little and very political. It's all about who you know. Serveral of the children belonging to these important people get away with drug use in the school (by the way these are 3rd-6th graders). When the PTA brought it to parents attention and wanted equal treatment along w/ drug intervention programs the principle became angry and told us we could not have our meetings are the school the 07-08 school year and if he changed his mind it would be with terms such as getting the agenda approved through him a day before the meeting.
At the end of the school year we left on good terms with most teachers and bad terms with the principle. We offered to purchase a drug intervention program during the summer for the school to the principle at his choice and we have heard nothing.
So the options we discussed at the end of the school year was 1)continuing meetings elsewhere and not be able to do the programs we did such has character counts, teacher appreciations, book fair, and family game night. 2)finish our funds off and close up by hiring parents reaching out to do a seminar for our community because our district has been failing for the last 4 years or 3)submit and just do projects and not get involved in politics no matter how bad it gets.

No matter what I am not excited about the school year like I was...we had exciting ideas and our feet have were knocked out from under us. I realize PTA shouldn't been involved with discipline but turning our heads and letting this stuff go on is not for me as a parent.
